About This Blog

I began this blog in 2011 in an attempt to improve my photography and showcase all of California's 58 counties. I didn't quite make all of the 58, I missed three and I will try to rectify that in the coming year. I'm not sure how much I improved my photography because I always seemed to be in a rush.
In 2012 I plan to take more time, perhaps not post every day (this is one thing I did accomplish in 2011). I also plan to expand beyond California and include images from other parts of Western United States. I will continue to include a map showing where I was when I took the picture. I will keep commentary to a minimum, long photo essays will continue to be at Martha's Musings.

that roofline is amazing! what a shame it is to be closed. I wonder what will happen to the land and the buildings?

Always sad when parks have to be closed for whatever reason.

I thinks it;s a travesty that so many parks are scheduled for closing in California! Encouraging people to be out in nature is so important. Healthy psyches need nature!

I like this photo. Reminds me of a place they make molasses in Somerset, Ky.

Martha - It doesn't often happen that a beautiful scene makes me cry! It is so sad that the public is losing these treasures.

I'm still saving up my California tour (via your blog) until I get caught up (we are back in Oregon now, not that you could tell it from my blog)...but I recognized you on Scenic Sunday's place of honor, so just a quick visit tonight!

What a beautiful building! Is it a sawmill or a barn? I can't tell. Whatever it is, it is a shame that we, the people, won't be able to enjoy it! The Salton Sea is on the hit list, too, but I believe because they also receive federal funds, it has to be kept open. However, the state did boot out the visitor center and installed a new tenant!

That crisp, cool, clean air! I can almost smell it from my monitor! Makes me yearn for the mountains.
