About This Blog
I began this blog in 2011 in an attempt to improve my photography and showcase all of California's 58 counties. I didn't quite make all of the 58, I missed three and I will try to rectify that in the coming year. I'm not sure how much I improved my photography because I always seemed to be in a rush.
In 2012 I plan to take more time, perhaps not post every day (this is one thing I did accomplish in 2011). I also plan to expand beyond California and include images from other parts of Western United States. I will continue to include a map showing where I was when I took the picture. I will keep commentary to a minimum, long photo essays will continue to be at
Martha's Musings.

I don't think I've ever seen one. Makes me think of Kipling's 'Ballad of East and West' -- "If I had bowed my head on my breast, as I have held it high, the kite that whistles above you now were gorged 'til she could not fly" --
This one doesn't look that gorged, but certainly looks well-fed.

Great Shot! Looks to be staring you down.
Great photo - he is very "fluffy" - is he young, do you think, or just well-groomed?!
Beautiful photo, Martha!
That bird looks like it's posing for a beauty contest! Such white feathers!
That's a great photo of a beautiful bird. I like the contrast of colors.
Gorgeous bird- one that's high on my list to go find someday.
Beautiful! there is nothing whiter than those white feathers!
A real beauty. What a shot!!
This is such a handsome bird!
great one! I love these guys! They seem to flush really easily too, I'm glad he sat still long enough for a photo op! There was a place near where we used to live in Humboldt where there were about 40 kites...so cool to see them just perching so close to us. Your blog makes me miss CA more and more though ! :)
