About This Blog
I began this blog in 2011 in an attempt to improve my photography and showcase all of California's 58 counties. I didn't quite make all of the 58, I missed three and I will try to rectify that in the coming year. I'm not sure how much I improved my photography because I always seemed to be in a rush.
In 2012 I plan to take more time, perhaps not post every day (this is one thing I did accomplish in 2011). I also plan to expand beyond California and include images from other parts of Western United States. I will continue to include a map showing where I was when I took the picture. I will keep commentary to a minimum, long photo essays will continue to be at Martha's Musings.

My second favorite tree behind the Ponderosa Pine. Nice capture of the shape and shadows.
I like the little leaf shadows on the left side. :)
What a great shadow shot for the day, Martha! I love the two kinds of leaf shadows -- the soft, blurry ones and the really sharp crisp ones depending on the angle of the sun as it hits different parts of the tree. But whatever, it makes for a gorgeous shadow shot! Hope you have a great weekend -- maybe a little sun??? I think we had our weekly portion of sun for a few hours yesterday!!!

It looks as though the shadows are trying to climb over the wall...
WONDERING WHY
Said Shadow, “I do wonder why,
When there is no sun in the sky,
I must disappear;
I’d like to stay here
And never again say good-bye!”

The old growth tree adds artistry in shadow to the Arboretum. Sun, shade and the building's exterior combine to create a pencil or charcoal drawing. Stunning!
lovely capture...
Great photo!
The old wall looks like it belongs in Europe rather than California!
The bark is such a gorgeous shade of rust. Is this the arbutus that has a shaggy bark?
Oh, and I love the shadows. :)
EG Wow, yes it is the arbutus and when the bark peels in fall it contrasts with a beautiful green underbark.
A very artsy shot. Your weekend reflection shot is really beautiful...
Have a good week ahead!
Down here in Florida they call it the 'tourist tree' because it's red and peeling.
